Don’t Feel Obliged To Bring A Gift
“Upon the first time visiting a friend’s or a new friend’s house, these are great times to bring a hostess gift,” Post advises. “Never show up empty handed is not a solid rule. Use your judgement. You absolutely do not have to pay for your plate. Gifting is always a generosity of spirit rather than an obligation for reciprocation.“ She adds, “At some parties, people are bringing communal meals. In this case, you don’t need a gift.”
