Is Color-Coordination a Bad Thing?

The rules of fashion aren't always so different from the ones that govern interior design, though we have to wonder if the jury isn't still out when it comes to color coordination. (Or, in wardrobe parlance, being "matchy-matchy".) Is having a chair or drapery that match your wall color too much? Or just enough to set you apart from the herd? It seems that this bold choice works best when executed decisively—avoid the middle ground and work with either subtly complementary hues or aggressively straightforward ones. What do you think?
