An Easy Mudroom Hack for Your Small Space

Boots lining an entryway with hooks for coats
While this particularly frosty winter has provided us here on the East Coast with many a glittering, snow globe-esque landscape, the season is also flush with harsh realities. For the weather-worn, they come in the form of slush-covered boots, snow-drenched coats, and, once the melt begins, muddy wellies.

A mudroom with white walls and slate tile floors

Oh, what we would do for a proper mudroom! With the simple delineation of a space of their own, rubber galoshes, woolen caps, and canvas totes come together to form a stylish vignette of durable, practical winter necessity. While we city dwellers can't quite squeeze such luxury quarters into our already-crammed apartments, we’ll add a cozy mudroom to our growing list of "elements of the perfect country getwaway."

Until we get the keys to said cottage, we're reimagining a version of the utilitarian space for our compact lives, using these three essentials: a poppy welcome mat from Urban Outfitters, a sturdy Blu Dot coat rack from which to hang our well-loved puffers, and a modern take on the timeless L.L. Bean catchall for toting life’s essentials. Otherwise known as: keeping the dream alive, one accessory at a time.
