Houseplants are an absolute essential to your home. Not only do they give some extra personality to your decor, but they also help keep your air healthy and generally add a burst of life to your space. If you want your plants to work their green magic, you have to give them some love and care in return. However since every species has its own unique needs, it can easily get confusing and you may be left with some sad brown leaves.

The first step to keeping a healthy plant? Giving it the right amount of sunlight. Even before purchasing a new green baby, you should map out where it can go in your home to not only fit your aesthetic, but also make sure it will stay alive longer than a week. To help you out, we made a little guide to show you where the most popular plants can go in your home to keep growing strong.

Bird of Paradise: Want a beautiful tall plant right by the window? This gorgeous green absolutley loves direct sunlight.

Money Trees: These are actually one of the most adaptable plants. They can tolerate low and brighter light, but just don't stick it right under the sun.

Pothos: If you're looking for a plant to give life to darker areas of your home, you might want to look into a Pothos. They made excellent picks for hanging out in your dark bathroom.

Cacti: Since they are used to being in the desert, cacti love all the light they can get! Right in the window is its ideal spot.

Fiddle Leaf Figs: Fiddles are tricky. They still need bright light to survive, but direct sunlight will burn up your investment. Keep them away from windows if possible.

Philodendron: If your home is plagued with little light, you can easily brighten it up with a giant Philodendron. Also in the same family is the Monstera plant which is always fun to propagate and add leaves around your space.

Aloe: Need some greens in your windows? Aloe is an excellent option. We especially love them as a set of potted minis.

Rubber Plants: This green is quite versatile in your space if you have good natural light. It can move around as long as your green still gets sun.

Cast Iron Plant: Now if you need a plant that won't die on you, a Cast Iron Plant is your guy. Not only can it handle low light, but it also doesn't need to be watered very often. What a win.
