Danny Seo's Top Kitchen Design Trends for 2016
Our go-to sustainable design pro gives his take on the best of the Kitchen and Bath Show in Las Vegas.
Did you know that each year at the end of January your "Dream Home" Pinterest board temporarily comes to life in a Las Vegas a conference center like an incredibly chic desert mirage?
It's time you step into the magical world of the 2016 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS). Futuristic appliances and trendy cabinets, not to mention every major brand in the business, show off what's new and what's next for the two busiest spaces in your home to a slew of in-the-know designers. Our favorite among them, Naturally magazine editor, TV regular, and expert on all things green living, Danny Seo, was kind enough to pound the Sin City pavements, or rather, the carpeted, air-conditioned halls, to sort the same-old from the must-see.
"There are so many amazing and innovative products each year at KBIS," says Seo. "But when it comes to those two very important rooms in the home, there are three overarching themes that truly matter most: cleanliness, healthiness, and ease of use." Check out a video featuring a few of his favorite discoveries above, and keep reading for many more products that might just overhaul how you plan your kitchen or bath projects for the new year.
"While we all love a clean house, it's especially important that the kitchen and bathroom are totally spic and span. Both Wilsonart and Sherwin- Williams featured anti-microbial products to protect surfaces without sacrificing an ounce of style, while Kohler and Brizo offered gorgeously designed touch-free faucets to reduce the spread of contaminants while cooking and cleaning. And Kohler's new floral-inspired showerhead with a rub-clean silicone nozzle is brilliantly beautiful!"
"I may have a cookbook coming out later this year, but like most people I'm still always looking for ways to cook healthier. That's why I'm a bit obsessed with the new convection steam oven from Bosch which makes healthy cooking quick and easy for anyone. And because the basis for good health is clean drinking water, I really can't recommend the water filtration systems from Pentair enough. They've brought their commercial quality systems to homes. Drink up!"
3. Ease of Use
"Because we spend so much of our time in the kitchen and bath, the easier those spaces are to use and navigate, the better. I found a lot of products with smart design to make kitchens and baths clutter-free, more ergonomic, or just more comfortable for everyone in the home, pets included! I loved the hydraulic countertop from Wellborn Cabinet that adjusts for people working at various heights, like kids, people in wheelchairs, etc, and a dog food storage and feeding area from Hafele that features a toe-touch opening to keep everything organized while still easy to access. And for anyone who's like me and loves the look of a clear countertop space, the hidden knife block and storage cabinet from Masterbrand Cabinets is a must!"
