We mean it quite literally—just feast your eyes on the paisley patterned paper on the ceiling of this trad living room. On the wall, it would not only overwhelm but darken the space. Up high, however, the effect is just the opposite; it brightens and adds unexpected drama without altering the overall vibe of the room. I bet it'd even last longer than your average wall application: there's less wear-and-tear, sure, but it's also out of view more often, which means that you would probably never get sick of it.
