The High-Low: Finding An Affordable Baker's Rack

(Photo courtesy of Williams-Sonoma)While flipping through my copy of the extra-large Williams-Sonoma Home catalog the other day, I spied with my little eye something gorgeous: a French oak and-cast-iron baker's rack much like the ones used in Parisian boulangeries.

Being a writer/editor with very (very) limited resources, I will likely spend years pining for it. So I decided to play a game of high-low to find similar versions at multiple price points. (Though, if you love and can afford the original, more power to you!) Here's what I came up with:

A bookcase turned server made of iron and birch.
(Photo courtesy of Ballard Designs.)A baker's rack crafted with a shelf of Carrara marble.
