Total Man Cave Inspiration: Mise En Scene LA

What makes a good "mancave"? A few things readily spring to mind: wood grain, burnished metals, rich leather accents, and an evocatively nuanced anti-color color palette. Venice Beach's Mise En Scène boutique delivers on all counts, but by no means is this the bullish den of your father's day.

Flooded with sunlight from the ultra-hip Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Mise En Scène evokes the kind of chic surf shack Cameron Diaz could call home. It helps that proprietor Ryan Gray has a background in fashion; aside from delivering all of the necessary accoutrements to keep the men in your life looking and smelling fresh—from undergarments by The White Briefs to grooming products from Gentleman's Brand Co.—the store provides plenty of design takeaways for observant passersby. Uniformly framed black and white portraits line the walls, some of which are digitized flea market finds blown up to scale. Much of the teak furniture is custom and blends in remarkably well with vintage pieces such as the above console, taken off of its casters and topped with two interlocked L-shaped towers to create a uniquely inspiring display case. Swoon! Mise en Scène, 1638 Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
