Christy Ford's 3 Tips For an Organized Kitchen

Virginia-based editor Christy Ford (whose gorgeous home you may remember from our May 2012 issue) is a working mother with a demanding schedule—and her 1911 kitchen was in desperate need of an upgrade. "We tore out a second powder room on the first floor and installed the wall of built ins," says Ford of the renovation process. "We were so happy with our added function, we did the same in what has turned into a long butler's pantry/computer station/breakfast room.” Read on for her tips for creating an organized kitchen.

1) Keep children in mind during the design process. "We dedicated an entire floor-to-ceiling cabinet to the kids. They keep their crafts and games in that one cabinet and are able to access it easily on their own."

2) Keep what you use regularly out on the counter for easy access. "We use these cutting boards often and I love the look of them.”
3) Throw away excess packaging and store snacks in baskets or containers inside drawers.
