Is This the Most Stylish Hotel Room Ever?
Yet another instance of Milanese design supremacy
You've got to hand it to the Milanese. Every time you think you have a handle on your style—fashion or interior—their forward-thinking designs force you to reconsider it all. Case in point: the recently overhauled Excelsior Hotel Gallia, a Luxury Collection Hotel. Until yesterday, we were pining for the Old World grandeur on display in the elegant Jacques Garcia-designed La Réserve Paris, but this mod black-and-white suite has us changing our tune.
Here, supple leather, glossy marble, metallic finishes, and rough-hewn wood provide a contemporary feel with soul. Pieces by high-brow Italian designers from Poltrona Frau and Fendi Casa to B&B Italia and Cassina were incorporated throughout the revamped 1932 property, the work of Milan-based architectural and interiors firm Studio Marco Piva. And, in keeping with the city's Fall 2015 runways, the geometric accents—from the lighting to the furniture choices—feel fluid and of-the-moment. But what else would you expect from a city that specializes in understated chic?
