Steal This Look: A Serene Bathroom Makeover

Talk about planning ahead. “Our client approached his renovation from a forward-thinking perspective,” says Samantha Knapp, creative director of Tiger Lily’s Greenwich, who collaborated on this Manhattan master bath with Mitch Kidd of boutique construction firm Wellbuilt. The homeowner in question, a single man, envisioned sharing his space with a wife or partner in the near future. The design addresses symmetry with a twist: the vanity, for instance, contrasts drawers and doors on one side with open shelving on the other. “It’s double living,” says Knapp, “but with individuality.”

The shower: The center mosaic and two recessed niches are unified with a herringbone pattern that gives the room a focal point on its longest wall.
The sink: His-and-hers faucets are united with an elongated trough.
The vanity: The dark-stained wood provides a contrast with both the white Carrara subway tile and the delicate crystal light fixture above the mirror.
