These days, it seems every on-trend interior is ditching prim and proper aesthetics in favor of laid-back, effortless looks. Truth be told, the days of overstuffed pillows and obviously staged stylings are feeling a little dated. Instead, we’re collectively embracing elements like unfussy linen sheets, personality-packed touches and furnishings that feel collected over time.

So how do you create a home that feels lived-in and welcoming without veering into unkempt territory? To break it down for us, we turned to Jessie Black, owner of her namesake, laid-back-luxe San Francisco-based home decor boutique and interior design atelier.

Click on to see the space Jessie transformed into a messy-chic mecca and hear her guidance on how you can do the same in your own abode. Fair warning: you may just want to snuggle up with every item you see here, from the sumptuous bedding to Jessie’s “customer relations manager," her insanely-cuddly labradoodle, Max.
