“I take a bit of this era and a bit of that era, and then toss all parts and pieces into my design colander to see what shakes out,” says interior designer Julia Buckingham. The mantra refers to her approach to each new project, but the same can be said for her own home, a Queen Anne-style house in the Chicago suburbs, where she retrofitted an heirloom Louis Phillipe armoire to serve as her front hall closet. On top sits an abstract canvas painted by her mother-in-law.
