Leave First
I've experienced a breakup where my boyfriend moved out of our shared apartment and a breakup where I moved out. Moving out is the more enviable option. The apartment I stayed in, after my boyfriend left, felt like a constant reminder of him and our time together. It was pretty much torture being there.

Luckily, I had a friend who was out of town all summer who let me house sit. By the time she came back from her vacation I was in a stronger place, ready to face the apartment on my own. It might seem like the partner who "gets" the home in the split it wins, but they have to stay there with all the memories, which can be painful and make healing/moving forward difficult.
