Julie Houts
While social media has its ups and downs, Houts really credits it for the platform's abilities to disseminate her work. "I didn’t have a career as an illustrator before Instagram, so I really can’t say anything too critical," she says. "It’s been life-changing, very literally. I like how easy it is. I like, for the most part, to be able to engage with the people looking at the work I’m posting."

"It can also be creepy and scary in ways. I get creepy, sometimes angry DMs from people, mostly men. I get frustrated when my work is misunderstood, and it often is. I have the impulse to clarify or defend, but that is truly pointless," Houts explains. "There are always some trolls lurking around. I see less of that now than immediately after the election. Overall, the response has been positive. I’m happy people can relate to the drawings."
