Let's Hear It for the Boys (of Ernest Alexander)
(Ph. Sarah Storms)Never have I so badly wanted to borrow from the boys than this past Wednesday, when New York-based Ernest Alexander showed their spring collection in a rustic TriBeCa loft. The designer's first menswear collection represented a fashion-forward step for the company best known for solid messenger bags and leather goods proudly made in America. From a double-breasted blazer in a poppy, heritage Liberty fabric to a sporty-sleek navy and cobalt color-blocked nylon bomber, jackets were undoubtedly the strength here. But the pieces I wish I could've left the show with? This sharp Liberty-floral shirt and shorts combo, and a boxy weekender with just the right amount of utilitarian edge.
