The Birth of a Classic
While their widest-known work is undoubtedly their beautifully molded chairs, married visionairies Charles and Ray Eames (whose design studio was in high gear from the early 1940s to the late '60s) were more than just furniture designers. Their combined resumes include architect, filmmaker, engineer, painter, graphic designer, cultural ambassador, and federal government advisor. The iconic Eames Lounge Chair, pictured here, is a classic example of the timeless nature of their midcentury style.
