Thoughtfully edited, softly romantic, and simultaneously modern and timeless, the aesthetic of LA-based mother-son interior design team Kathleen and Tommy Clements has wowed clients including Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, and Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux. The pair's richly layered interiors always offer subtle surprises, so we invited the duo to take a stab at what 2014 will reveal.

Which interiors trend or trends will be big in 2014?
We don’t usually take trends into consideration when designing, [but we are seeing] pared-down spaces, greater thought devoted to the use of light, and a strong commitment to natural materials and interesting shapes.

What trend would you like to see more of next year (even if you don't think it's going to catch on)?
Clients investing in good art and important design.

If you could wave a magic wand to make a current interiors trend go away at the stroke of midnight on December 31, which one would it be and why?
People watching do-it-yourself design shows and trying to do it themselves.

If you had a design-centric New Year's resolution what would it be?

To make sure to keep our eyes open anywhere and everywhere we go. You never know what will inspire you.

Can you fill us in on your professional plans for next year? What projects are you working on or hoping to be working on?
We're kind of all over the map next year. From a mid-century modern in Truesdale, to the renovation of a 1930s Georgian, to two ground-up construction projects with Howard Backen
