Wish We Were Here: Miami Beach Edition

Ian Schrager partnered with Yabu Pushelberg for a destination that's exactly what you'd expect: all cool, all the time

Right now, on a tempestuous Monday afternoon when the snowpocalypse is in full swing in New York City, there are about a million places we'd rather be. One that instantly springs to mind: Miami, where white sand always trumps white snow. More specifically, we have our eye on the brand new Edition hotel, which opened just a couple of months ago on a prime perch between South Beach and North Beach.

The brainchild of design-conscious hotelier Ian Schrager, who is no stranger to envy-inducing interiors (remember the London Edition?), and Canada-based designers Yabu Pushelberg, the Miami Beach Edition is a visual feast. Studies in restraint, 294 guest rooms maintain the clean-lined architectural footprint established in the 1950s, when the property served as the Seville Hotel. Light wood paneling lend warmth to the serene white-and-beige palette and provide an earthy contrast to floor-to-ceiling doors and windows that look out on the sea.

Public spaces are equally soothing, but they're also more dynamic. In the lobby lounge, a minimalist gilded bar presides over plush white seating arrangements, marble tabletops anchored with golden pedestals, and a forest of vibrant palm fronts. And in Michelin star-rated chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Market restaurant, cane-backed bentwood dining chairs, mosaic-gold columns, and mod globe pendants recreate the boulangerie-inspired look of some of Europe's best food emporiums. It all adds up to a post getaway where the surroundings may just be even better looking than the beautiful people who flock there.
