STORY Made In America Supports Regional Craftsmanship Throughout the U.S.
For the uninitiated: STORY is a conceptual retail space that, "takes the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery, and sells things like a store." Every four to eight weeks the STORY team introduces an all-new design, carefully crafted to showcase a new range of artisans and products in their 2,000-square-foot storefront on the corner of 19th Street and 10th Avenue.
The twelfth iteration of the STORY retail experience reimagines the multifaceted space as a road map come to life, hand-painted by artist Georgia Elrod to draw on "the nostalgia of summer vacation." Featured products are merchandised according to the U.S. region of their provenance—the Northeast, South, Midwest, or West—and include soap line Smith & Chang, Detroit Denim, Lodge Cookware, Brooklyn-based accessories line TGT Wallet, and jewelry designer Beth Macri.
An in-STORY Perch Interactive-designed table is dedicated to educating consumers about the economic impact of each purchase, based on statistics from the US Department of Commerce and the Manufacturing Institute. Did you know that for every dollar spent on a product made in the USA, another $1.40 is sparked in surrounding sectors of the US economy? Now you do! Drop by STORY Made In America to find out other ways your shopping habits can make a difference; open through Sunday, September 1.
