See This Now: "Here Lies Love" at the Public Theater
She's known for her shoe collection. He's known for his trippy music. Imelda Marcos and David Byrne, a most unlikely pair, have become a breakout combination thanks to a new musical taking the Manhattan arts scene by storm. A disco-tracked history lesson of the Philippines during the contentious Marcos administration, Here Lies Love—written by the Talking Heads frontman in conjunction with DJ Fatboy Slim—is playing at the Public Theater through the end of June. (Its run has already been extended more than once due to popular demand.) I was lucky enough to see an early performance—with Byrne himself in attendance—and have been bopping along to the funked-out soundtrack ever since. My advice? Snag tickets now before the show ends, strap on your comfiest shoes, and wear something neon. It's one big glow-in-the-dark dance party, and it's nothing but fun.
