Airbnb's Latest News Offers BIG Upgrades
The shelter empire is only getting smarter, and better.
It was only 10 years ago when Airbnb co-founders Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia inflated three air beds in their San Francisco apartment to start what is now a global phenomenon. The shelter hub's growth and global footprint since that time reflects a worldwide impact, with twelve times more listings today than in 2011. Now, Airbnb, is changing the game once again.
Co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky just announced a brand-new tier of homes, called Airbnb Plus. 2,000 homes in 13 cities have been approved for quality and comfort, and aim to serve guests looking for beautiful, luxury experiences and exceptional hosts. The Airbnb Plus home approval team verifies the homes against a 100+ point checklist, which examines cleanliness, design, functionality, and more. With a new luxury tier, Airbnb's competitive edge is strengthened against alternative shelter options. With their new, luxury tier, property types reach far beyond the original three (shared space, private room, and entire home). Now, they also include vacation home, unique space, B&B, and boutique hotels.
Additionally, Airbnb Collections, an assorted collection of homes that cater to all types of travel, is now available. These include Airbnb for Family and Airbnb for Work, and more categories are to come later this year.
So, what's next for the growing company? Along with Airbnb Plus, even more tiers of homes are on the way. Beyond by Airbnb (launching spring 2018) will broaden the appeal of Airbnb to invite even more guests and recognize hosts who go above and beyond. Superhost program updates will praise great hosts, and best guests will be recognized with a guest membership program offering benefits across the entire trip.
Airbnb has changed the way we think about travel and stay, and even pioneered travel with new experiences. Their last expansion, Airbnb Trips, includes bookable local-led experiences and restaurant reservations, powered by Resy. Airbnb stands as one of the world’s largest accommodation platforms with almost five million places to stay in 81,000 cities. Their empire continues to expand, and we're definitely along for the adventures.
