Keap Is Changing The High-End Candle Market For Good
High-end candles for a fair price? Yes, please.
Candles are one of our favorite ways to instantly transform our homes whether we want to chill out, refresh a room, or just add a nice aroma to our spaces. But as much as we love high-end candles that use quality, safe ingredients and also smell amazing, our wallets don't. Google employees and roommates Stephen Tracy and Harry Doull were on the same page.
"We were obsessed with the scents and design of luxury candles, but found them to be outlandishly priced, while using toxic materials like paraffin wax," said Tracy. "So we set out to build a better luxury candle company that charged a fair price, and focused on sustainability, all without compromising on quality or design." After some kitchen experimenting, the duo quit their jobs and began Keap, named after their street in Brooklyn.
The brand maintains a commitment to clean design and only using non-toxic coconut wax. It also started up as a Public Benefit Corporation with a dual mission to make candles better and provide access to affordable, sustainable light to people living outside of the electrical grid. Through the company's Buy A Candle, Light A Home program, each purchase donates to the non-profit SolarAid, which brings light to underprivileged areas through solar lamps.
"We launched Keap via Kickstarter in 2015 and exceeded our target by 2x," said Tracy. "Since then we’ve bettered the customer experience by launching a candle subscription and ‘try-at-home’ sampling kit." These options are perfect for the modern audience. While customers can purchase each of Keap's four signature fragnances for $35, the sampler lets you find your favorite without paying any extra costs, while the subscription sends you a brand new candle based on your scent preferences $28 every single month with the option to skip a shipment.
Keap recently created a new Kickstarter to release four new fragrances, and reached their goal in just two days. So keep your eye out for the new releases this June!
