While IKEA will always be our go-to for affordable and on-trend furniture, it's also the go-to for Game Of Thrones costume designers. According to Esquire, the beloved sheepskin rug that we so graciously toss over chairs for Instagram-worthy photos is the surprisingly modern source and hack for fur costumes in our Sunday night HBO favorite.
Fur is a frequently seen addition because winter has come (duh), and the Seven Kingdoms are a tad bit cooler as we all nervously await the White Walkers arrival. Costume designer for the show, Michele Clapton, shared with an audience at the Getty last year, "These capes are actually IKEA rugs. We take anything we can. We cut, and then we shaved them, and then we added strong leather straps, and breakdown which is like a religion on Game of Thrones."
Will the combination of GoT and modern day interiors influence us to redecorate our spaces like Castle Black or take fashion cues from Sansa Stark? Probably not. But we're thrilled to see how how one of our favorite retailers has cleverly found a spot on John Snow's shoulders and into our weekly TV obsession.
