Refinery29 Co-Founder's Very First Furniture Line Is Here
Christene Barberich x The Inside is a collaboration you have to see.
Christene Barberich, global editor-in-chief and co-founder of Refinery29, is ready to decorate your home. The NYT best-selling author announced her collaboration with The Inside last spring, and from there, a creative process ensued. Since teaming up with the direct-to-consumer home decor brand, Barberich's visions of graphic color and pattern have come to full fruition. Now, her very first furniture collection is live.
The new line, a mixture of pillows, removable wallpaper, chairs, and bed frames, reminds us design is form of expression and play, never to be taken too seriously. Even better, Barberich's collection is affordable. While pillows start at $49, the brand's removable wallpaper is $129 per roll. Chairs and folding screens start at $299 and upholstered bed frames range from $599 to $799. Now that's the sweet spot.
When discussing why she wanted to create a home line, Barberich explained her sources of inspiration in a statement: "As a lifelong lover of history, textiles, and ephemera, I wanted this collection to respectfully honor the iconic work of some of my favorite women artists and makers."
She continued, "So many pivotal pioneers— think printmaker Anni Albers, ceramicist Edith Heath, architect Anne Griswold Tyng, and the quilt-makers of Gee's Bend, Alabama—have profoundly influenced their craft and, certainly, how I see home and design. I really hope this collection celebrates that: their fiercely unique view of the world, and how creations like theirs inform who we are and how we want to live."
Barberich strived to create each piece with clear intention and purpose. “Home and, more-so, the meaning of home and the role it plays in people's lives, has evolved so much. I love that there is such a distinct appreciation for individuality and cultivating a space that truly reflects not only the tastes but the hopes and dreams of the person living there," she said in a statement.
She even explained her interpretation of the home and decor, stating, "It's less about tradition and more about establishing personalized rituals and environments that inspire and restore...and honestly, make you feel like your best, most nurtured self.”
Perhaps the most exciting part about this collaboration is it inherent ties to the future of design. The Inside is committed to creating cutting-edge home pieces with a revolutionary low-waste approach and a no-middleman digital business model. By offering all of their customizable products online, the home-decor brand is aiming to make design more accessible and personal than ever before. As the co-founder and creative force behind The Inside, Christiane Lemieux hopes to bring savvy, forward-thinking creations directly to your home. Together, Lemieux and Barberich are the ultimate design power duo.
Barberich even expressed her admiration for her design counterpart in a statement, saying, “As a longtime fan of Christiane Lemieux, I always thought it would be a dream to collaborate with her on something," Barberich said in a statement,
"So when The Inside reached out to me, I was honestly over the moon. I found such a kinship and sisterhood in her team and mission, especially when it came to extending my love of some of history's most iconic female makers to our collaboration. I love what they're creating with The Inside, and believe making eclectically designed, affordable home things accessible to everyone is a huge game-changer.” One female co-founder supporting another? Now that's an empowering partnership and design motive we can definitely get behind.
