This Home Collection Supports Indian Artisans — And We Want It All
The Citizenry's latest collection has a little bit of everything.
The Citizenry, the home decor hub devoted to showcasing skilled artisans from around the world, is at it again with its global-inspired goods. We covered the last collection drop — the Indonesia Collection — which offers a perfectly-crafted assortment of wooden furniture. Now, the team is turning their focus to textiles with their latest line — the India Collection.
As the biggest and most inventive collection The Citizenry has offered yet, the India Collection is a collaboration with over 260 artists from all over India (six cities, to be exact). The line is a sophisticated, modern take on the incredible colors, textures, and craft culture of India. Featuring block print pillows, dhurrie rugs, table linens, and bronze tableware, this collection could realistically play a role in every room of the house — and support independent artisans while doing so.
The Citizenry Dsar Bronze Serving Set, $265, The Citizenry.
Each thoughtfully designed and ethically crafted piece is a work of art and a result of a meaningful partnership between The Citizenry and its makers. The company's product design director, Haley Seidel, explains, "The designs are inspired by the geometric lines in Jaipur's cityscape, India's famous stepwells, and the curves of Jantar Mantar." In sum, incorporating these pieces into your living space is like bringing a slice of India — a tribute to its history and architecture — home, too.

The global-inspired company founds their collections in long-term relationships with their artisans. "We spent a year partnering with hundreds of artisans to get every detail right - from the dye colors used in our kantha blankets and towels to the meticulous details of our block print pillows," says co-founder Carly Nance. "We even experimented with new approach and techniques, like block printing on ethically-sourced leather. To make sure none of the leather scraps went to waste, we partnered with an artisan cooperative to meticulously weave the leather scrapes into intricately woven, upcycled pillows that are the perfect textured mixers to complement the minimal earth tones throughout the collection. The India Collection is truly our biggest undertaking yet, and our team could not be more proud of the end result."
