This Is What The Frasier Apartment Would Look Like In 2018
In honor of its 25th anniversary.
Ready to feel old? The iconic TV show Frasier is about to turn 25 this Sunday, September 16. While we are still happy to watch reruns of the '90s hit, we have to wonder what the show would look like if it was done today. After all, Frasier's Seattle apartment was already pretty iconic. In honor of the anniversary, the team at the interior design service Modsy decided to recreate the space for 2018 and the results are seriously stylish.
"Frasier’s style in 2018 is really no different than his style in the early 90’s, just a bit more refined," shares Alessandra Wood, Design History PhD and Modsy’s director of style. "He is a collector of quirky objects, beautifully designed furniture pieces, and artwork inspired by a pre-colonial era. His apartment is rooted in comfortable, well-made pieces. Frasier would never be one to refresh his core furniture seasonally, as he is a collector that invests in pieces for functionality and good design."
"A few key updates we’ve made to the bones of his apartment reflect Frasier’s masculine-eclectic taste translated to today," explains Wood. "Terrazzo replaces the concrete tiles on the facade of his statement fireplace. We thought he might be into this trend, especially if he was trying to date someone younger. We ripped out the carpet and replaced it with a black marble to give the space a subtle edge and dramatic elegance."
"Preserving Frasier’s iconic style was one of our main goals in making stylistic changes to the structure of the space — you’ll notice we kept other structural elements intact like the beautiful woodwork, which feels so modern today," she says.
Of course, Modsy made sure to keep in all the mid-century pieces in the psychologist's space. "To keep true to the classic design of the Frasier apartment, we kept his beloved Wassily chair and made it a core part of the living room seating," explains Wood. "In loving memory of Marty, we included a Milo Baughman recliner from Design Within Reach that we think Frasier would have selected to stand in place of his father’s trusted, duck-taped armchair. He tried to convince Marty long ago to upgrade to a more modern recliner."
"Near the windows we kept Frasier’s iconic Eames lounge, as it’s a classic staple of comfortable, minimal style. A few of his new favorite pieces would be this sculptural Perigold coffee table that calls upon the whimsey of the original living room centerpiece, and bold art prints from Natural Curiosities."
With a space this cool, we would so support a reboot.
