How To Skip Cleaning & Still Have A Spotless Home — According To Wayfair

Easy tricks to living clean.

Illustrated by Briana Gagnier.

We've reached a conclusion about maintaining a sparkling home: cleaning is a full-time job. If we were to do every chore needed to keep our homes as fresh as we'd like them to be, we wouldn't have time for a social life. Seriously though, can someone tell us how they successfully do the laundry, change the sheets, maintain closet organization, vacuum the rugs, do the dishes, water the plants, and manage dust regularly?  We're still out to find the best cleaning strategy out there. For now, Wayfair has us covered.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, about 90 percent of our time is spent indoors. This means we are always inhaling indoor toxins that can lead to cold and illness. But, how does one actually take care of the problem?

We teamed up with our favorite home hub to find out a few ways to clean the home — without actually doing anything at all. In fact, there are some ways to clean up without covering every surface in chemicals. If that sounds too good to be true, read ahead for Wayfair's five simple tricks to integrate into your home routine now. Trust us, you'll even sleep better at night after mastering these hacks.

 1. Add Plants

"Improve air quality by adding greenery to your décor! Indoor plants have been shown to reduce pollution and increase productivity as they literally filter the air,"shares the Wayfair team. "Allergies, illnesses and contaminants can stem from poorly ventilated areas. Go green and consider potting indoor favorites such as a spider plant, peace lily, or ferns. Weed through thousands of planters including a gorgeous ceramic pot, a traditional urn or a funky statue planter!"

2. Breathe Easy With An Air Purifier

"Beyond clearing the air in your home, air purifiers control unwanted odors and remove allergens like dust mites, animal dander, and mold. Filtering out pollutants will circulate healthier air to inhale, beneficial for your overall health," recommends the Wayfair team. "What’s more, you don’t have to do much other than plug it in! This investment piece will do all the work for you — just sit back, relax and breathe. Try one of these budget friendly choices like a standing floor purifier or this compact option."

4. Shop For Salt Lamps

"These crystalized sculptures are not only beautiful, they have the power to attract water molecules that absorb the particles floating in the air. Basically, it looks pretty and detoxes the air for you," says the Wayfair team. "Salt lamps have the added benefit of boosting blood flow, improving sleep, increasing levels of serotonin and more!"

"This affordable, yet effective masterpiece is a must-have for every home. Treat yourself to a stunning caged salt lamp or a more simple fixture to seamlessly blend with your existing décor."

5. Invest In A Robotic Vacuum

"Did you know that a person sheds over one million skin cells a day? Yikes! It’s recommended to vacuum at least once a week to maintain the cleanliness of your home, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it yourself," shares Wayfair. "Spend more time binging your favorite Netflix series and less time cleaning by splurging on a robotic vacuum. Seriously, this little bot may just be your new BFF! Invest in a bright and colorful vacuum or something sleek and modern."

5. Defeat Dirt With A Shoe Rack

"Shoes collect thousands of bacteria that can enter your home without an invite. To stop germs in your tracks, ask guests to remove shoes before entering," recommends Wayfair's team. "Having a shoe rack at the front door will minimize dirt from making its way in and will decrease hours spent cleaning up the mess! What’s better than a spotless house with no effort involved? Consider choosing an open shoe rack to avoid grime residing in hard to reach spaces such as a sleek tiered rack."
