We are big fans of anything pink on Instagram. Just take a look at our own feed for proof. So when we heard about #OurPinkHouse, we were obsessed. For the project, feminist yarn artist Olek recruited help of Syrian and Ukranian refugee women to cover an entire home in hot pink crochet. Not only is the result incredibly cool, but it also has an amazing message.

Olek was initially commission by the Verket Museum to recreate a traditional Swedish home, but the stories of the refugee women helping her served as inspiration for a new project. Olek wrote in an Instagram post, "I decided to blow up my crocheted house to illustrate the current unfortunate situation worldwide where hundreds of thousands of people are displaced,” she wrote. “After I exploded the house I wanted to create a positive ending for them as a symbol of a brighter future for all people, especially the ones who have been displaced against their own wills. Women have the ability to recreate themselves. No matter how low life might bring us, we can get back on our feet and start anew.”

After completing the home in Avesta, Sweden, Olek collaborated with a new group of refugee women in Kerava, Finland to cover another home. She wrote about the second project, "Women have the ability to recreate themselves. No matter how low life might bring us, we can get back on our feet and start anew. We can show everybody that women can build houses, women can make homes." To check out more incredible photos of the neon pink masterpieces, take a look at #ourpinkhouse on Instagram.
