The Design Lover's Haunted House Is Coming To NYC
Say hello to your biggest nightmare.
If asked to think of a haunted house, a maze-like space filled with all the items from your local Halloween store and terrifying costumed actors might come to mind. Well in the era of the experiential pop-up, this seasonal treat is getting a modern update. The creators of NYC's popular Dream Machine are launching a brand new spooky edition called Nightmare Machine. Described as taking "the best of Halloween haunted houses and adding shareable moments from our pop-culture-infused collective unconscious," this event is sure to be a dream for any fans of horror and getting a good Insta pic.
“Our goal with Nightmare Machine is to tap into our weirdest nighttime dreamscapes and create a creepy, fun, and content-focused experience that will transport you into an alternate world,” said Paige Solomon, founder of both Nightmare Machine and Dream Machine. “Halloween is an incredible holiday because it gives us the freedom to experiment with the hidden sides of our personalities, and explore things that tantalize and terrify us in everyday life.”
Nine rooms will take you through a labyrinth of your fears from aliens to fiery (ball) pits to a Clockwork Orange-inspired tunnel. Add in a "millennial graveyard" and a space filled with cockroaches (aka all apartment dwellers' biggest anxiety of all), and you have a dreamscape that will haunt you more than anyone dressed up in a Freddy Krueger mask.
The Williamsburg-based pop-up will be open from October 3 to 31 on Wednesdays through Sundays from 5 pm to 10:30 pm. Tickets are now on sale, so we recommend scooping up yours before you experience the worst millennial nightmare of all — FOMO.
