If you're a design person in the know, you're aware of the sleek and sexy direction prefab homes have taken in the last decade or so—an architectural renaissance that now includes versions by Philippe Starck and Danish accessories brand Vipp. But not until now has the high-style Hamptons set embraced the concept quite so avidly. Thanks to Cocoon9, a new venture from entrepreneur Christopher Burch and builder Edwin Mahoney, small-space living is the new status symbol.

Sustainability, speed of delivery, and (relative) affordability: Cocoon9 has a lot going for it. And that's not to mention the design itself, a streamlined beauty dreamed up by an all-star team in New York and Shanghai. With three models ranging from 160 to 480 square feet, and prices that start at $75,000, the concept lends itself easily to guesthouse and pool-pavilion possibilities. Take a tour of the Cocoon in our slideshow above. And if you're in the Hamptons for the next few weeks, see the Cocoon Studio for yourself at Southampton's Mecox Gardens. Danger: serious small-house envy at work.
