Excessive Bargain Hunting
The biggest reno no-no for Natalie Myers of Veneer Designs? “Buying finishes and fixtures that are on sale because you are hemorrhaging money and have convinced yourself to be budget conscious and responsible,” she says. “Spending more on the labor than the actual light fixture, tile, or wood floor does not make sense when you will be living with this item for years. You will grow to hate it and resent yourself for making that call.”

“There is a happy medium between bargain-basement builder-grade supplies and high-end designer materials,” notes Myers. “Find that medium ground and mix and match cheaper basics with that tile, light, or door knob you always dreamt of.”
