Whenever we hear a home is decorated in a traditional story, our minds are instantly flooded with imagery of dark antique wood, ornate decor, and a form of elegance that just doesn't feel applicable anymore. So when we learned about a project described to have a traditional look from the mother-daughter design team, Thea Home, Inc., we had our apprehensions. Yet once we saw the space, we realized the home has perfectly captured a mix of modern and classic style that brings the aesthetic into the new era.

A former carriage house on a university campus, the home got a full gut renovation to make it the perfect spot for visiting distinguished guests and scholars. "Our goals for the space were to open it up, but still keep a traditional feel," explains designer Dorianne Passman. "We wanted the home to feel elegant, refined, but not too fussy."

With a neutral palette and beautifully curated details, the project is definitely an inspiring piece of modern traditional design. Want to take a full tour? Read ahead to explore the stylish university residence.
