MARKET MARKET Diane Bergeron OCCUPATION: 3 Director of Diane Bergeron Interiors What is your greatest professional accomplishment? There have been so many CURRENT LOCATION: Melbourne, Australia With what fictional character do you most identify? Mary Poppins, because I also have a bottomless handbag. Apparently you can tell a lot about a woman from the handbag she carries, and mine obviously says I am ready for anything! 4 significant moments. Just being respected in a career I love is such an honor, and seeing a client’s joy at the end of a project is truly rewarding. It was pretty fantastic that Vogue Living did an eight-page spread on my work. And being featured on the cover of Livingetc was an honor, especially because it was our house, so I had complete control over the project. Where do you feel most inspired? At our country house, where I can cook for hours, take long walks, and unwind. I do all my best thinking there. You have a beautiful family and a beautiful home. What’s the secret to designing highstyle interiors that are also child-friendly? It’s a misconception that you need to deprive yourself of elegant surroundings once you have children. The trick is to thoughtfully introduce functional pieces, and incorporating good storage is a must! Diane’s Classic Go-Tos 1 2 3 4 5 B lu Mediterraneo Arancia di Capri Eau de Toilette by Acqua di Parma: $138; Barneys New York C lifton Lounge: $2,170 and up; Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Petitgrain 21 Classic Candle: $70; Le Labo Painted-Edge Correspondence Cards in Black Set: $60/box of 12; Mr. Boddington’s Studio Track Link Bracelet: $78; J.Crew What is your most prized possession? I have the most wonderful book collection; I could not live without it. Who is the person who most embodies “style”? Diana Vreeland—she had an innate sense of style. She famously once said, “Too much good taste can be boring,” but it was clear she had amazing taste and was never boring. 1 In your next life, who or what would you most like to be? My dog, Fergus. He has a lovely life and is treated like a celebrity. In what historical period would you most like to have lived? The early 1960s. I was there but not old enough to enjoy the hairdos and cocktails. What is your idea of perfect happiness? A hot bath, scented candles, and a glass of Champagne (aka 45 minutes of me time). 5 You live in a converted warehouse. What was it like to transform a formerly industrial space into a family home? It was amazing to have such a blank canvas to work with. We spent a lot of time planning it out so it was functional and appealing to both adults and teens. 2 26 Lonny JUNE • JULY 2012 2012 JUNE • JULY Lonny 27
