Spiced Apple Cider Cocktail
Serves 6
For the apple cider:
-- 6 cups apple cider
-- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
-- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
-- 2 star anise, plus more for garnish
-- 2 cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish
-- 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, sliced
-- 2 strips orange peel, about 2 inches long
-- ½ cup maple syrup
-- 1½ cups bourbon

In a stockpot, combine apple cider, cloves, nutmeg, star anise, cinnamon sticks, ginger, orange peel and maple syrup. Bring to a boil over medium high heat, then lower to a simmer for 10 minutes. Keep warm until ready to serve. To serve, add ¼ cup bourbon to each apple cup and top with cider, a cinnamon stick, and star anise.

For the Apple Cups:
-- 6 apples (Fuji, Red Delicious, or Gala)
-- juice of 1 lemon

On a cutting board, use a knife to cut off the top of the apple. Carefully score the rim of your apple cup, ¼-inch from the edge. Use a spoon to scoop out the inner apple flesh and form a cup shape. Brush lemon juice over the inside of the apples to prevent browning. Fill each cup with spiced cider cocktail. Courtesy of Diana Yen.
