Most Requested — Transitional
Playing it safe? McCarthy says many Americans lean toward transitional design, partly because it's viewed as the "safest design style."
"Transitional design is the mix of traditional and modern design styles, so sits directly in the middle," she says. "It focuses on non-offensive patterns, neutral colors, larger scale furniture, and timeless styles. As a designer, I always introduce transitional style to those who want a gender neutral space, are designing a guest room, or tend to have a hard time describing their personal design style — this is a good intro into the design world and maybe a stepping stone for many!"
