When White Walls Work

Cause we've got a blank space baby...and we're thinking about keeping it that way

Blame it on the snowy images inundating our Instagrams, or the proliferation of Scandi-modern home blogs, or even the whole fresh-start, resolution-making season that seems to expand each year in direct correlation with the ever-growing holidays, but lately we can't stop thinking about pure white walls.

So while every other post in this column sings the praises of all things color, just this once we're completely captivated by the soothing quality of these clean-slate spaces.

When White Walls Work

Are you feeling what we're feeling? Here are some of our favorite all-white homes from the pages of Lonny:

Top left: A New York townhouse designed by Katie Martinez layers in soft neutrals, but doesn't shy away from a pale palette throughout. The white-on-white kitchen and baths are spa-worthy.

Top right: Spare is the last word we'd use to describe the Parisian home of the fashion designers behind Zadig & Voltaire. The main living spaces feature crazy gold ceilings, and rich architectural detailing is prevalent throughout. #Parisproblems. But the gallery-like expanses of white wall let the homeowners' art collection shine.

Bottom left: The Brooklyn apartments of the guys behind Fort Standard embrace that hip, minimal-living vibe that dominates the trendsetting borough. A few artful accessories feel even more special as part of a tightly edited home.

Bottom right: It makes perfect sense for an artist to start with a blank canvas. In the seaside Spanish home and studio of color forecaster Pepa Poch, cavernous spaces sport bare plaster walls—a perfect starting point for seeing color with fresh eyes.
