The Open Shelving Hack Every City Dweller Needs
It was right under our noses all along.
We've already told you about the three types of people who can live with open shelving. But what about the rest of us? I've always thought that everyone's favorite design trend was best suited for people who live in the country—clean places unlike the city where the dirt doesn't reappear the second you finish dusting. Then I remembered British interior designer Tara Bernerd's posh London apartment in Lonny's December/January 2013 issue. In her kitchen, the shelves are protected with rolling panels of fluted glass. The obvious bonus: besides being unexpected and visually stunning, they provide a much-needed barrier that keeps you from pre-washing your tableware each time you try to use it. Now that's open shelving every city dweller—myself included—can live with.
