Anatomy of a Room: A Worldly Bachelor Pad

When designer Christina Loucks first entered the Atlanta living room of her jet-setting bachelor client, the only piece of furniture present was a pool table, and the new construction was lackluster to say the least. Together the duo eliminated some builder-grade fixtures and layered in masculine pieces in diverse textures, tones, and metals, for an eclectic and highly personal living space anyone would love to come home to.

Loucks says
: "We added a pendant over the sitting area to anchor the space. I like the clear glass because it doesn't take up any visual  space."

We say
: A collection of well thought out, subtle elements can often make the biggest design statement.

Loucks says: "It was a challenge to find a sofa that was right for this space—not too boxy, not too feminine, and not too big. Because it's floating in the center of the room, it was important that it have unobtrusive lines. "

We say: Tufting is a great ways to ensure your upholstery has personality without relying on over-the-top shapes or scale.

The Desk: French Factory metal desk by Restoration Hardware

Loucks says
: "The client loved this desk and showed it to me before he purchased it. It is just a gorgeous metal finish and served as a great jumping off point for the design."

We say:
We can picture Howard Hughes sat behind this old school, industrial beauty.

Loucks says
: "It was important to have a reflective surface among all the darker ones. This piece anchors the area while remaining light in appearance."

We say
:  The coffee table's distressed mirrored surfaces add a note of aged glamour to balance the room's masculine overtones.

The Accent Chair: 1938 Leather Butterfly chair by CB2

Loucks says
: "This chair nods to classic vintage styles, while maintaining the rustic vibe with leather-strung hide."

We say
: Every space deserves one iconic design element. The butterfly chair, originally designed by Austral Group in Buenos Aires, is immediately recognizable.

Loucks says: "The client loves all things rustic and collected, and these hooks were the perfect nod to his  personality. They add a great bit of interest to that little corner nook."

We say: We love the clever use of these hooks as a wall installation. They're a moment of cheekiness in an otherwise grown-up space.

Loucks says: "This chair was fun to pair with some of the more modern accents. It's the perfect balance of comfort and traditional style."

We say: It's hard to go wrong with a classic, cozy piece like this. It's bound to be the surprise favorite hangout spot.
