The Metal That’s About to Oust Brass
It's time for a hardware coup d'etat, and the new leader is dark, moody, and thoroughly cool.
Round these parts you either love brass or you love to hate brass—sentiments that are often aligned with whether or not you remember the 80s, aka the most recent brass age before our current one. There's something undeniably fun and glamorous about the gold tone, but after several years as the trendiest metallic around, many a design lover has hit their cap with the top brass. The tides are turning, a restrained wind is blowing out the east, and we suspect hardware's golden child is about to meet its successor.
Our prediction? None other than under-the-radar oil-rubbed bronze. At once antique-y and modern, the moody, mottled tone feels completely chilled out and cool against it's garish, glammy predecessor. If metal finishes were a pop band, oil-rubbed bronze would be the mysterious one. The Posh. The Zayn. The little Gucci dress and the leather moto jacket. TBH, we'd hang a poster of that Jessica Helgerson-designed kitchen (top) on our wall and kiss it goodnight.
What say you? Are you on board with this heady metal? Still have heart eyes for brass? A polished chrome wild card?
