(Patrick Cline / Remix: Decorating with Culture, Objects, and Soul)When it comes to choosing art for your home, there are as many reasons to select a work as there are pieces of art: perhaps you love something because it was painted by a favorite artist, it's an heirloom passed down through your mother's side, or it depicts a cherished family vacation locale. In the November installment of Lonny Loves, we sat down with the creative couple behind design blog AphroChic, who have a unique perspective on bringing art into the home.
(Patrick Cline / Remix: Decorating with Culture, Objects, and Soul)In their new book Remix: Decorating with Culture, Objects, and Soul, Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason show readers how to imbue a space with ethnic details that are both personal and hip. "Our goal was to create a guide to modern, soulful design that incorporates cultural style in a way that's meaningful to the individual," says Hays. "While we write from our own perspectives as African Americans, the ideas work for any culture, whether it's your own heritage or one that you're passionate about."
In the above video clip, the couple talks about how they curated the art in their own home and offer tips on what to look for in a piece of art, whether it's a pop of color or a graphic element. How do you choose art to display in your home?
