You've got the tree and the lights and the stockings, but you feel like you've still got some holiday decorating mojo left inside of you—what's a girl to do? With Christmas only two weeks away, it's not too late to whip together some quick decor to live out all your holiday dreams. IMHO, there's nothing as perfect as a home covered in classic garland that makes me want to curl up with some boozy eggnog and watch Love Actually. Real swags of evergreen can be pricey, and the faux impostors can often read cheap. But a shabby chic-inspired, Anthropologie-esque garland made of jolly tartans and silks? We've done the legwork ourselves to tell you this D.I.Y. project is inexpensive, simple, and makes a bold statement wherever it may hang. Read on for how you can get the look yourself in four easy steps.

STEP 1

If you're working with large bolts of fabric, begin by cutting the material down into 10"x 10" squares. Then proceed to cut the fabric into 10" x 1" strips. If you have smaller pieces of fabric, cut your strips into 7" x  1" strips.

STEP 2

Once you've cut your fabrics, group them together by their respective pattern.

STEP 3

With your piles of fabric strips at the ready, create the garland by simply tying the strips onto a long piece of twine following the order of your choosing.

STEP 4

Continue tying strips to the twine until you've reached your desired length, or until you've run out of fabric strips. To hang the garland to the walls, use small nails or removable hooks for easy removal.
