DIY Leather Walls to Try In Your Home

One of the very first images we fell in love with from designer Samantha Knapp's Connecticut cabin was a cool red wall in the passage leading to her bedroom. It looked uncharacteristically luxe for the quirky space, but we soon found out that the wall—which we thought must've cost Knapp a fortune—was actually an easy DIY project that took little time and even less effort to pull together. Want to know how she got the look? Read on.

To start, Knapp applied a layer of deep-red leather using standard wallpapering techniques. Once the wall was dry and the leather was stable, the designer measured a grid of squares on the surface and then used it as a guide to adhere nailhead trim along the pencil markings. "This is my nod to Jeffrey Bilhuber," says Knapp. "It's chic and masculine—a good counterpoint to my ultra-feminine bedroom." The finishing touch: a trio of mounted antlers, of course!
