How To Make An (Almost) Healthy Cocktail

New Year’s resolutions to get healthy can be hard to stick by, especially when you’re hosting Happy Hour, Lonny’s new cocktail series. But I’ve managed to create a beverage that’s not only really tasty but also (almost) guilt free. The name of this miracle drink? I call it the Resolution Cocktail.

To start, my friends over at Industry Standard Distillery donated a bottle of supreme vodka. Next, I chose beet juice as a base since it’s high in folic acid and manganese, which help break down calcium deposits in the body (thereby relieving symptoms of arthritis, kidney stones, and varicose veins, among other ailments) and can increase oxygen levels in the blood. Beets also have a detox effect, so it’s important to start with small amounts and increase your intake as your immune system grows more tolerant to it. Add some ginger, agave nectar, and lemon juice, and you’ve got a cocktail that’s as healthy as it is delicious. Just try to stick to one of these in a sitting—it’s good to practice pacing in the New Year!

Here’s what you’ll need:
1 small celery rib, cut into ¼-inch pieces
2 slices freshly peeled ginger
1 medium slice of pink lady apple
2 oz. Industry City vodka
¾ oz. beet juice
¼ oz. agave nectar
¼ oz. lemon juice tonic water

In a cocktail shaker, muddle two or three pieces of celery, plus the lemon, ginger, and apple.
Add ice, vodka, beet juice, agave nectar, and lemon juice; shake vigorously.
Strain and pour over ice in a tall Collins glass.
Finish with a splash of tonic and garnish with a slide of lady apple.
