What To Drink On Christmas Day

(Source: Lonny / Patrick Cline)
Milk-based spiked drinks go with Christmas like white on snow. While eggnog is a standard holiday tipple, its expectedness makes it a bit of a yawn. (And does anyone actually like the stuff?) If you really want to wow guests this year, change up your routine and greet loved ones with a signature cocktail that's bound to impress. This one comes courtesy of New Orleans designer Angèle Parlange, or rather, her brother. The best part: you probably already have all of the ingredients on hand.

(My Brother) Brandon's Milk Punch
1 2/3 cups heavy cream
5 cups milk
3 cups  sugar
1 1/2 cups water
3 tablespoons vanilla
one fifth of bourbon
nutmeg for garnish

Add the sugar and water to a medium-size saucepan to make simple syrup. Bring to a boil and let simmer undisturbed for 2 minutes. Cool before using. Next, combine all other ingredients in a large bowl, adding in 2 cups of the cooled simple syrup. Transfer contents to a pitcher and place in the freezer for up to 6 hours. Serve neat or over ice topped with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
