Nathan Turner Shares His Recipe for Hot Toddies

I think it's safe to say that the season for alcoholic beverages served warm is officially upon us—or at least it will be after tonight's fright fest. And to prepare you for all of the family gatherings and holiday parties that are just around the corner, we're going to arm you with a recipe that's sure to get the drinks flowing. Or, rather, designer Nathan Turner will. Here, the (incredibly simple) instructions for making his favorite hot toddies.

- 2 or 3 ounces of spiced dark rum (depending on how stiff you prefer your drinks to be)
- 2 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 6-8 ounces of sweet cider
- nutmeg to taste

Put the rum, cinnamon, and cloves in a heavy 12-ounce mug (be sure to rinse the mug in hot water first to warm it). Heat the cider just to boiling, and then pour into the rum mixture. Garnish with some nutmeg and serve immediately.

Once you've made the drink, you can serve it in whatever vessel best fits your shindig. Go rustic with Pottery Barn's Mason Jar Mug (below), modern with Crate & Barrel's Flare Mug, or romantic with Simon Pearce's Windsor Tankard.
