Tara Guérard, the Charleston, South Carolina-based event planner, has created fetes and tablescapes for countless brides, including the likes of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Now, she has partnered with 1stdibs to design a series of table arrangements using items from the site's venerable vendors. Bonus: you can purchase each and every piece. Here are three of our design takeaways.
1. Opt for a white charger that's rimmed in the color of your choice (it can be white). A metallic lip can add a luxe touch, but vibrant hues such as red or Kelly green can skew playful or sophisticated depending on what you decide to pair it with.
2. Layer in texture, pattern, shape, and color. While Guérard prefers a setting that reads more monochromatic, she also suggests mixing and matching from various sources—from CB2 glasses to your grandmother's antique silver—to create a more collected look. (Of course, you could also start with a colorful or patterned charger and add a white dinner plate above it.)
3. Sprinkle decorative items throughout. Not everything on the table needs to be used. Home decor and trinkets can inspire the type of flower you place in a vase or even act as fodder for good conversation. A silver fish, a cigar cutter, and an enamel box are among the pieces Guérard used to enliven these settings.
