These Holiday Tablescapes Are Actually Worth The Effort
Young & Able schools us on stylish tabletops.
The Young & Able Open House is well underway and the Brooklyn hotspot has become one of the best places in town to search for gifts and inspiration for the holiday season. In addition to all the amazing good to peruse, the space has been host to a number of awesome workshops and displays from local creatives. One event that completely sold out? A floral arranging class with Sierra Steifman, founder of The Floral Society. The styling expert also created a few gorgeous tablescapes that we couldn't help but share with you today.
If you're looking for inspiration for your own holiday spread or just want to peek at some pretty arrangements, read ahead to learn the ways of mastering the dining table.
The Neutral Tablescape
If you're in the market to create a beautiful tablescape filled with natural materials and soft textures, we recommend looking to this design for inspiration. "For this tablescape, we paired neutrals with warm wood tones and Floral Society candles," explains Stiefman. "We used a natural linen as our base and created texture by not pulling it completely flat."
While soft textiles and handcrafted bowls are always aesthetically pleasing, it's important to create a focal point and add in some personal touches to take it a step further. "We used our 18-inch and 12-inch Miel tapers to create varied height and added dried hydrangea into our flower frog vase for a simple yet elegant look," says Steifman. "We scattered Floral Society Oversized Tea Lights on the table for an additional glow that will still be burning long after the party is over. Lastly we customized each place setting with our Place Card Holders and name tag set. This helps to make your party feel more intimate and personal."
"If you're decorating for a daytime party, there is no reason you can't still have fun with your tablescape," says Steifman. Her recommendation for something that feels perfect for a holiday brunch? Look to nature. "Drape a lush, seasonal garland down the length of your table to create a foundation for the display," she advises.
Another tip? "Nestle fresh fruits and gourds along the runner for color and texture," she says. "We incorporated our Ceramic Flower Frog vases along the runner as well that can hold single stems for a touch of floral."
Vibrant & Festive Tablescape
"For this tablescape, we wanted to create a fun and festive spread for those of you who want to go all out this season," shares Steifman. "We used our Floral Society copper vase to create a striking centerpiece on our table." When choosing your flowers, don't limit yourself to traditional winter hues. "We paired bold coral garden roes with red ranunculus, caramel-hued mums, carnations, thistle, and fresh persimmons spilled from the bowl."
Since this is a festive affair, you can't forget to light up your table. "Our Floral Society Fancy Tapers were placed in our ceramic candleholders to create varying heights and textures on the table," she explains. "Pomegranates were split open for another pop of color and guest dined on dark onyx plates."
