The long days of summer may be behind us, but a weekend jaunt just north of New York City will make you fall in love with Autumn. Meredith Mahoney, founder and creative director of @wayfair's year-old lifestyle brand, @birchlane, shared with us her Instagram guide to the too-cute-to-be-true town of Phoenicia in the Catskills. Less than three hours from Manhattan, the hamlet and its neighbors are an idyllic getaway for travelers of all ages looking for some old-fashioned fun, amazing artisanal shopping, and plenty of locally grown eats. Check out the must-see stores, restaurants, and attractions that Mahoney never misses.

eat: MAMA'S BOY

"Coffee from @mamasboymarket is a must, but the awesome staff is the real gem. They know everything about the area, so if you’re looking for a lead on a great swimming hole or off-the-beaten-path hike, they’re the ones to ask."

SHOP: PHOENICIA FLEA

"Imagine picking up the best independent shops in Brooklyn and dropping them in the middle of an apple orchard...that’s @phoeniciaflea. Don’t let the name fool you—this 'flea market' includes block printed textiles, artisan olive oils, letterpress stationary, and hip jewelry. I picked up a bracelet for my sister, a leather pouch for my brother-in-law, and a smoky tomato jam for a neighbor. My favorite booth was a guy selling hand-pressed oils from cedar trees and juniper bushes he tends on his farm."

SHOP: VINNY'S

"Hands-down the best farm stand in the area. Vinny’s has been in business for over 40 years and carries homegrown fruits and veggies along with everything else you need for a picnic, all locally made. Vinny has every type of fruit, vegetable, bread, cheese, and pie that you could ever want. On our most recent trip he had 3 varieties of watermelon!"

EAT: PHOENICIA DINER

"This is the place to have breakfast each morning—locals and tourists alike flock to this popular spot (@phoeniciadiner); it’s not uncommon to run into the same folks that you had a beer with at the bonfire the night before!  Everything is delicious here, but I always get the huevos rancheros skillet.  I’m from Texas and I’ve never had huevos this good.  Also, don’t be ashamed to get a milkshake for breakfast—this is vacation!"

STAY: the GRAHAM & CO

"@Thegrahamandco is a design lover’s dream. The former motel was revamped by four Brooklyn designers, and the simple but well-designed rooms have everything you need for a rustic Catskills weekend.  The lounge is a great space to hang out, listen to music and play checkers, and the hotel has nightly bonfires where you can get your s’mores on!"

SEE: ROADSIDE FARMSTANDS

"Fresh flowers are available for a song at every farm stand in late summer. I buy a bunch to give our room at The Graham & Co. some life! @Migliorellifarm is a great stop for fresh fruit, cheeses, and some local conversation."
