Fresh New Animal Prints for Spring
The couple behind Katherine Rally Textiles puts a sweetly sophisticated spin on age-old batiks.
During my former life as a travel-magazine editor, I blithely assumed that I’d be one of those moms toting their kids around the world from the earliest possible age. Without getting into the various reasons (budget and sleep schedules, for starters) this didn’t turn out to be the case, I still have enormous respect for parents who made it happen for themselves. Case in point: Kathy and Rally Dupps, the couple behind Katherine Rally Textiles, who not only split their time between Boulder, Colorado, and Bali, Indonesia, but produce a beautiful line of batik textiles to boot.
Our intrepid market editor spotted the brand’s latest collection at Studio Four and soon had us all swooning at the cheeky, eye-catching updates on the ubiquitous animal print. The results feel both timeless and totally of the moment and would work in a multitude of settings. (I’m eyeing Love Cats in Empire Red and Alexandra in Classic Blue for my toddlers’ upholstered headboards.)
“We print on a cotton twill that is great for kids. It’s a sturdy fabric, yet it's lightweight and washes well,” says Kathy Dupps. “I love mixing patterns in one color for a kids’ room—well, really any room! I’ve noticed that people are willing to take more chances with color and pattern in their kids’ rooms, and our textiles are perfect for this.”
Adorable family story aside (hey, anyone who chooses six weeks’ travel through India over an engagement ring gets two thumbs up from me), the brand is putting out some gorgeous textiles that look even better together. Here’s hoping we at Lonny get to do a deeper dive into the couple’s enviable life.
